It’s the last day of November…and you know what that means. We are officially in the Christmas season. I use to not let myself listen to Christmas music or decorate until December 1st (why?) but I went ahead and did both after we got back from our Thanksgiving trip home. I’m NOT a fan of putting up your tree and listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. It feels like you are skipping over Thanksgiving! It deserves it’s own month. So October is all Halloween, November is all Thanksgiving, and December is all Christmas. I feel as if December is going to totally fly by so I am trying to get going on all my holiday shopping which lets be honest, mainly takes place online. As if I wasn’t already lazy enough, having a 3 month old does NOT make me want to fight the shopping crowds. I have a few places I will hit up for some family gifts but I’ll try to get that all done in one day.

I’m pleased with how my Christmas decor has turned out so far. Josh and I are so grinch-like in that we haven’t even put up a tree the past few years. The first year we were married we did and our cat Olive messed around with it and it was just more annoying than anything. We’ve moved around so much since then we haven’t even wanted to deal with it. We always go home and have plenty of trees at each of our families houses. So that has been good enough for us but we did buy a little one this week. I really like it! I leave it lit all day. For some reason my friends and I agree that holidays feel kind of “forced” here in Georgia, so I am really trying to make holiday cheer this year!

But lets pause on Christmas talk for a bit and recap Thanksgiving. We drove home last Wednesday night to my home in South Carolina. Unfortunately, Josh had a range all day so we didn’t even leave until about 5pm which meant we’d be hitting Atlanta at prime time. We always take the bypass which helps but it is still Atlanta so still crazy traffic. Amazingly enough, we only got in a small clump of traffic that only set us back about 20 minutes or so. So we got in about 11:15 pm. We were tired but happy to not have to get up at 6am the next morning to make it in time for Thanksgiving lunch!

My aunt and uncle drove from upstate South Carolina to join us. The food was wonderful as usual.

We had turkey, ham, stuffing, rice and gravy, green bean casserole, oyster casserole (don’t think I’ve ever had the nerve to try it), sweet potatoes (with marshmallows of course), corn casserole (made by yours truly), cranberry sauce, and a blueberry congealed salad. For dessert we had my homemade pumpkin pie and a Heath Bar cake.

I tried to not overstuff myself, but as we all know that is hard to do. We ate about 12pm and were eating leftovers at 5:30pm! I usually have my fill of the food by the second go round so that was enough for me. Of course I continued with the desserts though.

I loved being with family and my parents loved seeing Laurel again. They hadn’t seen her since she was like three days old and she has grown a lot since then! My best friend Leslie also met her for the first time and it was so sweet seeing them together!

I’ve realized one of the things I love most is seeing people I love love on Laurel. Warms my heart!

So when thinking of my November favorites, I realized most of what I had was food favorites. But since November is kind of a food month with Thanksgiving and all, I figured it was acceptable. So here is my food filled November favs!

Dannon Light N Fit Greek Yogurt

OBSESSED. This is so weird too because I haven’t been much of a yogurt fan in the past. I’ve been trying to tidy up my diet a bit though and bump up my protein intake and this has been really helpful for both of those things. It’s an easy and tasty 12g protein. I’m eating it with my lunch as a side instead of my usual carby pretzels or chips. There are so many flavors to choose from so I mix it up!

Detour Smart Bars

Also added to my daily snackage are these detour bars. I think I’ve mentioned them on ze blog before. I bought a box a while back when I was pregnant and was not feeling them. Later realized they were old/I didn’t really want any protein powder/bar type food when I was preggers. But now I have a fresh box and no baby in the belly so I am back on it! I get them at Sam’s in a big box with Blueberry and Apple Cinnamon flavors. I haven’t tried the Cookie Dough or Chocolate Peanut Butter ones yet but want to! These are another easy source of protein with 10g for a tasty 130 calorie afternoon snack!

Fajitas

Yet another strange craving I’ve been having. I never liked fajitas in Mexican restaurants because they make your clothes stink haha. Seriously, it’s true. All that sizzling just settles in on fabric. However, recently I had some and omg, yes. I feel like they are healthier than a lot of the options on a menu in a Mexican restaurant. Plus it is kind of fun to create your own tacos. I do tend to skip over a lot of the onions and peppers but I think they flavor the meat well. YUMM.

Think Thin Bars in Holiday Cinnamon

I’ve had several flavors of the Think Thin protein and fiber bars. Smores, Vanilla Cupcake, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and now Holiday Cinnamon. It is a limited time flavor for, well, the holidays. It is a white chocolate coated bar with a delicious cinnamon center. Guys I love these. They have that holiday spice to them and you can’t tell they have 5 grams fiber and 10g protein. I literally ate two of these by lunch time today. I don’t know why, they were just really hitting the spot with a cup of coffee. I’ll probably regret all that fiber and chicory root later. Oh well..

Mini Pies

I had some leftover pie crust from baking my pumpkin pie and I didn’t want to waste such gloriousness, so I made some mini pies! They were so easy. Just plop a teaspoon or two of your favorite pie filling and then pinch up the sides. After baking them, make a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze and drizzle it on top and you have such a delicious mini dessert

Boar’s Head Dark Chocolate Hummus

I’ve been very tempted to try the dessert hummus for a while. I couldn’t wrap my mind around it for awhile, but I finally did and I am so happy I did. Josh wasn’t down to try the snickerdoodle or brownie batter ones, but he was down with the dark chocolate. So we got it and demolished it in about a 24 hour span. You may be wondering, what the heck do you eat with chocolate hummus. I was wondering the same thing. Pretzels is the answer. You could also go with fruit like strawberries, but the salty sweet combo of pretzels did me in. Go get you some.

Murder on the Orient Express

This new movie is based on an Agatha Christie book of the same name. I loved this movie! It was Josh and I’s first date night out after having Laurel and we so enjoyed it. There have not been many movies that seem worth going to the theater as of late, but this one was on my list. There is an all star cast: Johnny Depp, Dame Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, Josh Gad, Penelope Cruz, and the list goes on. I love a good murder mystery whodunit, and this is just that. Go see!

Live PD

Ever watch Cops? This show is like that but even better and way more up to date. The show is broadcasted live every Friday and Saturday night at 9pm on A&E. A camera follows around different police units across the country. Some in Washington state, South Carolina, Utah, etc. You see some crazy stuff and crazy people. It’s even more fun since it is live. I am nosy and love to see what people are getting arrested for. You see some people that are so normal looking that have crystal meth and cocaine in their car. Blows my mind.
