The last day of October has come and gone. Kind of sad since I love October so much but honestly, now that we are in Georgia, October doesn’t feel super fall like so it’s just whatever. But we have had some really cool days lately which has been so nice.
Halloween was so fun! We went trick or treating with Laurel aka Princess Anna and a couple friends. She looked so cute in her costume!
We went out for just a little bit before heading back to our house and handing out candy. It is actually a really good way to meet neighbors. Josh met a fellow Citadel graduate we are going to get dinner with soon. You never know who you’ll meet!
We ended up giving away most of our candy. We had a bigger crowd trick or treating this year. The hood was all a buzz which makes the holiday more fun. It’s so lame when no one comes to your door!
I have totally moved on to November, and I went out and bought a fall wreath to put on our door. I got such a good deal. Never buy seasonal decor full price. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas stuff goes on a major sale after the holiday, so just wait till after to stock up for next year. I am surprised all the fall decor was already 80% off at Michael’s. I got an originally $120 wreath for just $25! Such a deal. It’s so cute too, with owl, pumpkins and sunflowers.
Perfect for November and leading up to Thanksgiving. But before I jump too hard into November let’s recap October favs!
I feel like I have to force the Halloween spirit these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love all things spooky and Halloweenish, but the heat here just doesn’t make it feel like the right time of year for Halloween. So I played my Pandora Halloween song station, bought more Halloween decor at TJ Maxx, and of course, watched some scary movies to get myself in the mood. I realize that I never saw a lot of the classic Halloween movies as a kid. So not until I was married did I ever see movies like Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, and others. So I watched both of those this year along with Halloweentown. Those are more kid movies, but I also watched The Babadook, It, and started the new Annabelle movie but haven’t gotten around to finishing it. It was fun to watch them all!
I don’t know if because it is fall and I am craving comfort food or what, but I am all about crockpot cooking right now. I love being able to cook in the morning and then throw everything in the pot and not deal with it again until dinnertime. I am also trying to get some more vegetables in my diet, so I find that crockpot stews and soups make that easier. I recently made a crockpot cream cheese chicken chili and also the Olive Garden soup, Pasta E Fagioli. Both turned out really good and were so, so easy. Just the way I like it! I recommend both recipes. Maybe I’ll do a crockpot recipe post?
Along with both the recipes I just mentioned, I made beer bread. Guys. I am totally into this recipe. I was wanting a “quick” bread and preferably one that didn’t require yeast (for some reason dealing with yeast scares me) so I found this super duper easy beer bread recipe. I was a little skeptical at first since I don’t like beer, but it is SO good. I am obsessed. I made it twice in a week and a half so that tells you I liked it pretty good. It is super buttery with just a hint of the beer taste. It’s doughy and just so yummy. I’ll share the recipe with you soon!
Jergens Skin Firming Lotion
So, I don’t know if you know this but after you have a baby your skin stretches out to accomodate a human being in your stomach. Thankfully my stomach is looking pretty normal, but I still have some extra skin that doesn’t just go away. So I have been using this Jergens Skin Firming Lotion. I don’t know if it is doing any good at all yet, but it makes me feel better to slather it all over myself. I think it will all go back to normal in time, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and speed up the process 🙂
I love dark nails. It may sound goth of me, but black nail polish is one of my favorites, especially for the month of October. It is in the spirit of Halloween, but I also just like dark polish for fall. It looks terrible if you don’t keep up with it, but freshly painted black nail polish actually looks really good. Really dark purple works too. My husband’s grandma wears OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark polish on her toes and I love it. I’m going to go buy that color soon!
Mainstays Pumpkin Spice Candle
Move over Bath and Body Works! There is another candle that rivals all of yours. I love, love, love Walmart’s Mainstays Pumpkin Spice candle. It’s less than four dollars, and one of the best fall smelling candles I’ve smelled. I usually have two laying around my house. Warning though, it smells so sweet hat it does make me hungry for dessert! I don’t think Bath and Body Works even has my favorite scent out this year (Pumpkin Latte and Marshmallow) so I am stocking up on these bad boys instead.
Voortman Wafer Cookies
This is a Josh and I’s favorite for this month. We just rediscovered those little wafer cookies I remember from childhood. We have tried the chocolate and the cookies n cream. Chocolate is the best between those two, but they have a ton of interesting flavors including pumpkin spice and apple crisp. They are so light and airy but full of flavor. The serving size is only three though, so beware! I can easily down a lot more than that! So yummy!
So that is all I have for October. I’m sure the month of November will fly by just as fast as October did, so I better start finding some favorites!
Have a great week!!
